The Trout Capital of Oklahoma
Gore is home to some of the best trout fishing in the nation. The lower Illinois River is stocked throughout the year with over 140,000 rainbow trout. Three stocking locations along the river are stocked bi-weekly (and every weekend from April through June): Tenkiller Powerhouse, Watts GMA, and MarVal Trout Camp.

Constructed in the early 1950s, Tenkiller Ferry Lake is a 12,900 acre lake that stretches from the Northern part of Gore to Southern Tahlequah. While serving its main purpose as a flood control reservoir, Tenkiller also serves as a water supply for surrounding towns as well as a source for electricity generation. The lake is also a recreational hub for much of Oklahoma and Arkansas, providing areas for water sports, fishing, camping, scuba diving, and many other activities.
